The Arizona Heat

My wife and I just returned from Litchfield Park, AZ (west of Phoenix near Luke AFB) where we attended my nephew's high school graduation. In the summertime Phoenix is normally hot, but the middle of May isn't really considered summer. The day we arrived it topped out at 106 followed the next day by 108. Luckily my brother has a cool house where we stayed most of the time. That is when we weren't travelling in his air conditioned car to the air conditioned Costco. Or in his cool pool. Surprisingly it cooled down the last few days we were there, getting only to near 80. Just about right for two Idahoans but a bit chilly for my brother and his family.

We had a good time and a good visit.

June 1, 2009

Mark this day on your calenders fellow readers. This is the day R J Buckley Publishing releases the 2009 edition of the WOW anthology. I mention this because some really great authors - and me- have contributed stories to this year compilation. So break out of the recession by buying your copy and I hope you enjoy my story, Until the Bunch Grass Grows Stirrup High. Later on I will explain the personal significance of the title.

New glasses

I hadn't realized my eyes had deteriorated so much until I put on my new glasses today. What a world of difference. Lucky, too, since I also had to renew my driver's license. Oh, and I took my wife out to dinner (chicken fried steak) a day late for Mother's day. Good simple comfort food that we both enjoy.

New blog

Here is my attempt at a regular blog. We'll see how it goes. First, we'll go with my definition of regular and not a normal person's definition. What to talk about? Hummm. How about writing? Now that sounds like a novel approach. I am currently sending out a mss to publishers. It has been to four and rejected by four. I'm trying to decide on #5. Also, I am working on a manuscript which I feel is about two-thirds done. It's near 43,000 words and I'm shooting for a completed work around 75,000. In addition to that I am firming up ideas for two more writing projects, one is something I can contribute(submit) to the 2010 WOW anthology(if there is such a beast) and the other is a new novel (historial) based upon the live of my GG grandfather.

For any interested readers I have a website at www.joshuaberrybooks.com and if you're interested in me and previous works I encourage you to visit.

I hope my thoughts are enjoyable, entertaining and perhaps, at times, thought provoking.
